Bro Review #1: Howl’s Moving Castle
Diana Wynne Jones makes whimsy work in this classic fairytale / fantasy novel from the 1980s.
She's built a world where fantastic things happen and some classic fairytale and fantasy elements get a loving, masterful jaunt together.
We get a mysterious wizard. We get a fire demon. We get portals. We get bargains. What's not to love?
If you're a @ghibliusa fan, you might already be familiar with the story from the 2004 anime adaptation, but you won't be retreading old ground -- the anime departs from the book in several plot points and stylistic choices.
Despite and/or because of its age, Howl's Moving Castle is good for a read, and then another read, and then another one again.
Perfect for reading under a soft blanket or (like me) at a coffee shop.
